umati has new partner Intelligent Sensing and Digital Manufacturing Lab., National Taiwan University

ISDM is now part of the umati community

What expectations do you have of umati, what do you expect from the partnership?

Through UMATI, our research team hopes to foster co-operation between industries, and we will act as a technology provider for manufacturers, suppliers and users.

UMATI is expected to drive technological innovation and digital transformation in the machine tool industry.

We will provide integration of advanced technologies such as Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and Cloud Computing into their operations.

This integration not only enables real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance, but also opens up opportunities for new services and business models.

What advantages does umati offer your company and your customers?

UMATI offers significant advantages to our company and customers by standardizing communication protocols and interfaces within the machine tool industry.

For our Lab, UMATI facilitates seamless integration of diverse technologies, streamlines workflows, and enhances productivity. This interoperability also enables us to avoid vendor lock-in and easily adapt to evolving market trends.

For our customers, UMATI ensures compatibility, transparency, and reliability, allowing them to optimize manufacturing processes, improve quality, and reduce costs. Overall, UMATI drives efficiency, innovation, and competitiveness for both our company and our customers.

How do you evaluate the expansion of the umati initiative to the entire mechanical engineering industry?

Expanding the UMATI initiative to the entire mechanical engineering industry is a significant step towards standardizing communication protocols and interfaces across a broader spectrum of manufacturing sectors.

This expansion fosters interoperability, collaboration, and innovation beyond the machine tool industry, enabling seamless integration of advanced technologies and diverse systems. By aligning with other industry initiatives and organizations, UMATI can further drive global standardization efforts and facilitate the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies worldwide.

Overall, the expansion of UMATI holds the potential to revolutionize the entire mechanical engineering industry, enhancing efficiency, productivity, and competitiveness across various sectors.

About Intelligent Sensing and Digital Manufacturing Lab., National Taiwan University.

Intelligent Sensing and Digital Manufacturing Lab, National Taiwan University is led by tenured distinguished professor Wen-Yuh Jywe. We are a research team of 35 full-time engineers dedicated to the development of smart manufacturing technologies for implementation in the manufacturing industry chain. In the past five years, our research team has cooperated with the development trend of smart machinery and implemented many governmental target projects (more than 50 manufacturers, smart manufacturing industries (including: aerospace, automotive, staple merchandise, system integration companies, IT / ICT companies)), and has been working on the implementation of smart manufacturing technologies. Smart manufacturing industries (including: aerospace, automotive, staple merchandise, system integration companies, IT / ICT companies), to help the domestic manufacturing industry industrial chain towards smart manufacturing transformation.

So far, the research team has guided more than 100 graduate students (including 8 PhDs) and 250 college students to work in the related metal processing industry; Recent 5 years government funding: 19 million(USD). Completed more than 70 technology transfers with 2.34 million(USD). The research team has conducted more than 85 industry-funded research projects, with industry funding of more than 5 million(USD); granted 138 patents (22 foreign) and 32 new patents; and published more than 80 international journals and 200 seminar papers. Through technology transfer, commissioned research, and talent cultivation, we have made specific contributions to the domestic industry.

Our R&D has entered into the integration of application areas including production process digitisation, manufacturing equipment digitisation and intelligence, inspection intelligence, and process quality control intelligence.

We are guided by the needs of the industry. Focusing on the manufacturing industry chain, we develop M2M platforms, multi-axis machine calibration, component IoT, production history, nano platforms, and other modules that are urgently needed by the industry, and we provide a Total Solution for the transformation of the industry from the sensor end to the whole line of intelligence from the physical end.
