SmartFactoryKL is now part of the umati community
What expectations do you have of umati and what do you expect from the partnership?
As SFKL, we would like to actively work on the Companion Specifications in the umati network. We would like to integrate our machines into the umati network. We hope to gain new insights and reflect on our skill-based approaches in order to bring the discussions on new standards together in a targeted manner.
What advantages does umati offer your company and your customers?
We know that the new technologies will advance our customers and companies as well as the industry as a whole. A strong network, such as umati’s, can serve as an argumentation aid, especially with regard to the companies already participating.
How do you evaluate the expansion of the umati initiative to the entire mechanical engineering industry?
We think an expansion makes a lot of sense. Speaking the same language and using the same connections are important steps towards establishing Industry 4.0, possibly even on a global level.

SmartFactoryKL is a research and industry network based on three pillars: an association (Technologie-Initiative SmartFactory KL e.V (SFKL) and two scientific research institutions, the German Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence and RPTU Kaiserslautern. SmartFactoryKL brings together stakeholders from industry and science in a unique Industrie 4.0 network to jointly develop and implement projects for the factory of the future. On this manufacturer-independent demonstration and research platform, scientists collaborate with industry representatives to test innovative manufacturing technologies in a realistic factory environment.
