What expect­a­tions do you have of umati, what do you expect from the partnership?

“Provid­ing a stand­ard­ized “lan­guage” for com­mon use cases is essen­tial to drive the numer­ous IoT ini­ti­at­ives. Umati should bring togeth­er machine build­ers and their users to pur­sue com­mon interests. Oster­walder is aim­ing to estab­lish umati in our spe­cif­ic cus­tom­er segment.”

What advant­ages does umati offer your com­pany and your customers?

“The pos­sib­il­ity of using a com­pan­ion spe­cific­a­tion sig­ni­fic­antly sim­pli­fies the imple­ment­a­tion of such a com­mu­nic­a­tion inter­face. It is also a great help in com­mu­nic­at­ing with our cus­tom­ers as numer­ous ques­tions in respect of inter­face con­tents and semantics have already been answered. A stand­ard­ized lan­guage facil­it­ates our cus­tom­ers to do the integ­ra­tion in their eco­sys­tems such as MES and ERP.”

How do you eval­u­ate the expan­sion of the umati ini­ti­at­ive to the entire mech­an­ic­al engin­eer­ing industry?

“We wel­come the expan­sion to include the vari­ous machine man­u­fac­turer seg­ments. The more par­ti­cipants the easi­er it should be to estab­lish umati as a world­wide stand­ard. It is import­ant to strongly coordin­ate the fur­ther devel­op­ment of upcom­ing com­pan­ion spe­cific­a­tions to avoid to many over­lap­ping cov­er­ages of com­mon uses cases.”
