What expect­a­tions do you have of umati, what do you expect from the partnership?

MVTec Soft­ware GmbH is an inter­na­tion­al man­u­fac­turer of soft­ware for machine vis­ion. Our products are used in many dif­fer­ent indus­tri­al sec­tors and a wide vari­ety of applic­a­tions. We have been devel­op­ing power­ful machine vis­ion meth­ods and algorithms since the com­pany was foun­ded more than 25 years ago. In addi­tion, we are com­mit­ted to part­ner­ing with oth­er com­pan­ies to jointly provide cus­tom­ers with the best pos­sible solu­tion. As a com­pon­ent man­u­fac­turer, we see that com­mon stand­ards and inter­faces are increas­ingly import­ant in the area of Industry 4.0. Umati is the ideal plat­form for this, enabling us to enter into an exchange with oth­er com­pan­ies from the auto­ma­tion industry. We are sure this will enable us to learn more about inter­op­er­ab­il­ity require­ments and cus­tom­er expectations.

What advant­ages does umati offer your com­pany and your customers?

We see that our cus­tom­ers are increas­ingly look­ing for com­plete solu­tions. There­fore, it is essen­tial for us to col­lab­or­ate with oth­er com­pan­ies. This is pre­cisely where we see the strength of umati. The inform­a­tion exchange and the col­lab­or­a­tion between com­pan­ies that cov­er dif­fer­ent parts of the value chain will only be strengthened in the long term. Umati gives us the oppor­tun­ity to estab­lish new part­ner­ships, so that our soft­ware products can be seam­lessly integ­rated into dif­fer­ent applic­a­tions. Plug-and-play con­nectiv­ity between machines and soft­ware requires a com­mon com­mu­nic­a­tion base. Nowadays this also includes authen­tic­a­tion and encryp­tion which needs to be imple­men­ted in a stand­ard­ized way. Umati provides the neces­sary base for this.

How do you eval­u­ate the expan­sion of the umati ini­ti­at­ive to the entire mech­an­ic­al engin­eer­ing industry?

The umati ini­ti­at­ive makes a sig­ni­fic­ant con­tri­bu­tion on the way to Industry 4.0. The addi­tion­al advant­age for cus­tom­ers is that they get the most effi­cient sys­tems pos­sible. And this is because the sim­pli­fied integ­ra­tion of the com­pon­ents means that cus­tom­ers now also receive the best com­pon­ent in each case. The approach “everything from a single source”, a sup­posed advant­age that is still cur­rent, will lose its valid­ity at the latest when the cus­tom­er can select exactly those com­pon­ents that best fit his require­ments. At the same time, com­pet­i­tion will also change and increase to the bene­fit of the cus­tom­er, as com­par­ab­il­ity will increase sig­ni­fic­antly. This can only be advant­age­ous for the suc­cess of Industry 4.0.
