JSP GmbH is now part of the umati community
What expectations do you have of umati, what do you expect from the partnership?
“JSP is pioneering digital transformation of moulding processes within the EPP community. Together with VDMA we have started an initiative with an objective to write a specification for standardised data exchange interfaces based on OPC UA for particle foam machinery. We expect that the partnership with umati will help us to promote OPC UA data exchange standards across the entire EPP community (including machine makers and moulders) and will contribute to the acceleration of digital transformation of the industry.”
What advantages does umati offer your company and your customers?
“Today, it takes a lot of effort for our customers to get access to process data from their moulding equipment. This is often the main barrier for many of our clients to start thinking about more ambitious digital projects. We are hoping that simplification of connectivity using umati OPC UA based standard will allow our customers to reduce this initial investment, necessary to convert their moulding machine into an IIoT device and make process data more accessible. The main advantage for JSP is that for ARPRO customers who have access to their process data, we are already offering connectivity between their machinery and our DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange) platform. With this connection JSP can offer new types of digital services based on data aggregation and machine learning models, which are highly beneficial in production optimisation and enabling ARPRO customers to exploit added value from their data.”
How do you evaluate the expansion of the umati initiative to the entire mechanical engineering industry?
“This initiative is one of the necessary steps towards the modernisation of the manufacturing infrastructure and development of practical applications within the digital transformation domain. Standardisation of communication protocols accelerates a conversion of manufacturing equipment into IIoT devices operating within the same network. The power of such a network can dramatically increase the analytical potential and offer a new set of opportunities to invent applications based on artificial intelligence (AI).”
