IndustryApps is now part of the umati community
What expectations do you have of umati, what do you expect from the partnership?
“When we came across the umati initiative, we were absolutely delighted, as it is helping to raise awareness about the necessity of creating open standards. Especially the machine building and tool making industry can benefit a lot, as it creates a competitive advantage not only in the hardware area but also in the area of interconnectivity, helping a customer to benefit easily from software solutions, software driven after sales services and optimised equipment utilization.
IndustryApps is on the forefront of helping companies with their Industrial Digital Transformation through a unique Ecosystem.
Data interconnectivity efforts can be reduced by up to 98%, allowing companies to gradually create their digital twins and interconnect data within the company (IT/OT, between sites) and with customers and suppliers.
The umati partnership will not only add a lot of value for us, but will also help to drive further standardization. We will never reduce the complexity in a manufacturing site, but we can simplify significantly the efforts for a company to benefit from the data across various sources and the umati initiatives is a milestone in these efforts.”
What advantages does umati offer your company and your customers?
“The biggest challenge for our customers is to connect different data sources. While IndustryApps is reducing these efforts significantly, there are still existing barriers to extract data for 3rd party applications from various equipment. These barriers slow down digital transformation and the roll-out of solutions across factories. Moving from proprietary to open standards will be a game-changer for the industry and interconnectivity is going to be a major competitive advantage.”
How do you evaluate the expansion of the umati initiative to the entire mechanical engineering industry?
“The expansion of the umati initiative creates significant benefits for both the customer and the mechanical engineering industry. Looking back, the first App Store for our smart devices started with 300 applications, today it’s millions. Because the whole concept of having different applications from different manufacturers interacting with each other on one device (based on standards) revolutionised our lives.
The umati initiative is creating that same opportunity to the mechanical engineering industry. A diversity of top-class assets, that can easily be connected along the value chain of a customer, showing a benefit in hours instead of months or years is a huge competitive advantage.”
