What are your expect­a­tions of umati, what do you expect from the partnership?

We expect an open net­work for cross-machine and cross-con­trol com­mu­nic­a­tion stand­ards of all indus­tries and man­u­fac­tur­ers. When devel­op­ing solu­tions with the umati stand­ard, we look for­ward to hav­ing con­nec­tions imple­men­ted in a time-optim­ized manner.

What advant­ages does umati offer your com­pany and your customers?

For our machine sys­tems (grind­ing machines, lathes, milling machines) we can offer a com­mon inter­face that takes into con­sid­er­a­tion the char­ac­ter­ist­ics of the cor­res­pond­ing brands. The part­ner­ship with umati increases the vis­ib­il­ity of HARDINGE bey­ond the pure machine busi­ness. Of course, this helps to build new rela­tion­ships in neigh­bor­ing busi­ness areas and to meet new customers.

How do you assess the expan­sion of the umati ini­ti­at­ive to the entire mech­an­ic­al engin­eer­ing sector?

From a purely tech­nic­al point of view, Indus­trie 4.0 is based on com­mu­nic­a­tion. From an applic­a­tion per­spect­ive, Indus­trie 4.0 should be ori­ented toward cus­tom­er needs in order to solve oper­a­tion­al prob­lems before they occur in pro­duc­tion facil­it­ies. A com­mon com­mu­nic­a­tion stand­ard for the entire mech­an­ic­al engin­eer­ing sec­tor cre­ates the basis for all stake­hold­ers to focus on the intel­lec­tu­al goal of Indus­trie 4.0.
