What expect­a­tions do you have of umati, what do you expect from the partnership?

The het­ero­gen­eous sys­tem land­scape in man­u­fac­tur­ing is one of the greatest chal­lenges for
com­pre­hens­ive digit­al­isa­tion. In par­tic­u­lar, the vari­ety of machine tool man­u­fac­tur­ers in
com­bin­a­tion with dif­fer­ent con­trol types sig­ni­fic­antly com­plic­ates the devel­op­ment of generic
solu­tions for the acquis­i­tion of intern­al machine data. Inde­pend­ent soft­ware pro­viders in the field
of data acquis­i­tion and pro­cessing, such as we as gem­in­eers GmbH, can only make this possible
through extremely high expendit­ure. For this reas­on, we expect umati to estab­lish common
inter­faces in the long term to eas­ily acquire and exchange machine-intern­al data. With­in the
frame­work of the part­ner­ship, we look for­ward to incor­por­at­ing our per­spect­ive into the current
activ­it­ies and to receiv­ing new impulses for our developments.

What advant­ages does umati offer your com­pany and your customers?

The devel­op­ment of an inter­face stand­ard is only pos­sible if all stake­hold­ers are involved in the
defin­i­tion. For us as gem­in­eers, the great advant­age of the umati com­munity is that all the players
rep­res­en­ted are work­ing on a com­mon solu­tion and we as start-ups are also allowed to participate
in this. In par­tic­u­lar, the exchange with estab­lished com­pan­ies in the industry is ground-breaking
for us. In the long term, our cus­tom­ers will bene­fit from the fast and flex­ible con­nec­tion of new
machines, which is made pos­sible by umati.

What advant­ages does umati offer your com­pany and your customers?

Since the begin­ning of the activ­it­ies, the umati com­munity has grown con­sid­er­ably, which is very
import­ant in order to pro­mote the dis­sem­in­a­tion of a stand­ard in addi­tion to the devel­op­ment. For
this reas­on, we already rate the cur­rent devel­op­ments as a great suc­cess. Nev­er­the­less, it is
extremely import­ant that even more part­ners par­ti­cip­ate in umati so that accept­ance is increased.
In the com­ing years, the focus must be on bring­ing the devel­op­ments already worked out into
indus­tri­al applic­a­tion. Only in this way can the umati stand­ard really be estab­lished in the long
term.

About gem­in­eers GmbH

gem­in­eers GmbH was foun­ded in 2021 as a start-up of the Fraunhofer Insti­tute for Production
Tech­no­logy IPT. The team of more than ten man­u­fac­tur­ing engin­eers and soft­ware developers
aims to accel­er­ate the digit­al­isa­tion of the man­u­fac­tur­ing industry. Based on a specially
developed tech­no­logy core, the “gem­in­eers Digit­al Twin Plat­form” enables an eval­u­ation of part
qual­ity purely based on intern­al machine data. By doing this, a digit­al image of the manufactured
part, the digit­al twin, is gen­er­ated. The aim of the plat­form is to enable the user to exploit the
poten­tial of data in man­u­fac­tur­ing to devel­op faster, more stable pro­cesses and to automatically
mon­it­or and optim­ise the qual­ity of pro­cesses and products.
