What expect­a­tions do you have of umati, what do you expect from the partnership?

We fully sup­port the idea of a uni­form extern­al appear­ance of dif­fer­ent CS under one brand label. Expect­a­tions of strong pen­et­ra­tion on the part of mech­an­ic­al engin­eer­ing cus­tom­ers can send the right foot­print in terms of digit­al­isa­tion and future viab­il­ity as a sig­nal. Through the exchange of experts with­in umati mem­bers, all can par­ti­cip­ate mutu­ally and improve their products, thus strength­en­ing the big pic­ture. 

What advant­ages does umati offer your com­pany and your customers?

For us as a machine man­u­fac­turer with dif­fer­ent divi­sions (plastics machines, wood and met­al machines) we can explain the cur­rent ambi­gu­ities regard­ing OPC UA stand­ard­isa­tion on the side of our cus­tom­ers in an under­stand­ably simple way. A brand name for the top­ic of OPC UA in the industry makes it easi­er for the cus­tom­er to under­stand the top­ic in a clear man­ner and to recog­nise the poten­tial for him­self. Fur­ther­more, we expect that this will make it easi­er for many smal­ler machine build­ers on the mar­ket to become famil­i­ar with the top­ic of OPC UA and stand­ard­isa­tion. 

How do you eval­u­ate the expan­sion of the Umati ini­ti­at­ive to the entire mech­an­ic­al engin­eer­ing industry?

From our point of view, the umati ini­ti­at­ive has cur­rently reached the entire mar­ket the best. No oth­er CS work­ing group has achieved this reach. By using a com­mon lan­guage to the out­side world, we can sig­ni­fic­antly sim­pli­fy the lives of our cus­tom­ers and provide them with tools and aids through the ini­ti­at­ive. Fur­ther­more, we see the inclu­sion of upstream and down­stream sys­tems such as MES, energy man­age­ment, con­trol man­u­fac­tur­ers, machine learn­ing ser­vices, etc. as the next step to achieve a high level of accept­ance here. Only by allow­ing the opin­ion of oth­ers do you cre­ate con­fid­ence and open­ness to what is yet to come.
