Hans Weber Maschinenfabrik GmbH is an internationally operating family business. And now also part of the umati community!
What expectations do you have of umati, what do you expect from the partnership?
We fully support the idea of a uniform external appearance of different CS under one brand label. Expectations of strong penetration on the part of mechanical engineering customers can send the right footprint in terms of digitalisation and future viability as a signal. Through the exchange of experts within umati members, all can participate mutually and improve their products, thus strengthening the big picture.
What advantages does umati offer your company and your customers?
For us as a machine manufacturer with different divisions (plastics machines, wood and metal machines) we can explain the current ambiguities regarding OPC UA standardisation on the side of our customers in an understandably simple way. A brand name for the topic of OPC UA in the industry makes it easier for the customer to understand the topic in a clear manner and to recognise the potential for himself. Furthermore, we expect that this will make it easier for many smaller machine builders on the market to become familiar with the topic of OPC UA and standardisation.
How do you evaluate the expansion of the Umati initiative to the entire mechanical engineering industry?
From our point of view, the umati initiative has currently reached the entire market the best. No other CS working group has achieved this reach. By using a common language to the outside world, we can significantly simplify the lives of our customers and provide them with tools and aids through the initiative. Furthermore, we see the inclusion of upstream and downstream systems such as MES, energy management, control manufacturers, machine learning services, etc. as the next step to achieve a high level of acceptance here. Only by allowing the opinion of others do you create confidence and openness to what is yet to come.
We look forward to working together towards the future.
