umati x FOF at EMO 2025

Inti­ated through our asso­ci­ation part­ner from the Neth­er­lands, FPT-Vimag, umati teams up with the Dutch “Fact­ory of the Future is Now” ini­ti­at­ive, where some umati part­ners and many more present how a state of the art, paper­less, digit­ized man­u­fac­tur­ing envir­on­ment for the future can be real­ized – today!

How can mod­ern machin­ing pro­duc­tion be made effi­cient, sus­tain­able, and future-proof? A Dutch con­sor­ti­um of elev­en lead­ing tech­no­logy com­pan­ies led by the Asso­ci­ation FPT-VIMAG answers this ques­tion with an impress­ive live demon­stra­tion at EMO Han­nov­er 2025. Vis­it­ors will exper­i­ence a fully func­tion­al machin­ing fact­ory of the future that shows how exist­ing tech­no­lo­gies can be intel­li­gently integrated.

The focus is on end-to-end digit­al net­work­ing – enabled by open stand­ards such as umati, which ensure cross-man­u­fac­turer com­mu­nic­a­tion between machines, soft­ware, and systems.

The fact­ory con­sists of three cent­ral elements:

• Digit­al work pre­par­a­tion                                                                                                                                                                                                                      CAD /CAM, ERP and plan­ning sys­tems are seam­lessly con­nec­ted to a cent­ral tool man­age­ment sys­tem. This reduces errors, shortens setup times, and ensures stable processes.
• Autonom­ous CNC pro­duc­tion                                                                                                                                                                                                                Highly auto­mated machines, intel­li­gent clamp­ing tech­no­logy, and sus­tain­able cool­ing lub­ric­ants enable 24/7 pro­duc­tion with high util­iz­a­tion and pro­cess reliability.
• Real-time pro­duc­tion cock­pit                                                                                                                                                                                                          Cent­ral dash­boards provide full trans­par­ency on machine status, energy con­sump­tion, and product qual­ity. Sup­ply chain integ­ra­tion ensures a con­tinu­ous flow of information.

The machin­ing fact­ory of the future shows how digit­al­iz­a­tion, auto­ma­tion, and inter­op­er­ab­il­ity — sup­por­ted by umati — lead to meas­ur­able improve­ments in effi­ciency, sus­tain­ab­il­ity, and competitiveness.

umati’s role in the setup was to dis­play data from machines and to aggreg­ate power con­sump­tion data to demon­strate how this data can be accessed to cal­cu­late, for example, man­u­fac­tur­ing car­bon foot­prints at a later time. This dis­play will both be shown at the umati booth and the Fact­ory of the Future install­a­tion in Hall 15, booth B05.
